Utah Trout Unlimited staff member receives prestigious Bureau of Land Management award

Kirk Dahle receives distinguished award for restoration work on Otter Creek

Salt Lake City, Utah — The Utah Bureau of Land Management (BLM) awarded Kirk Dahle, a restoration coordinator with Trout Unlimited, with the BLM Utah Partner in Conservation Award.

Dahle, TU's Bear River Project Coordinator in Logan, Utah, was given the award "for the exceptional contributions in helping conserve our native fish populations" on Otter Creek in Rich County, Utah. The award highlights the work Trout Unlimited has done to increase fish passage on the creek and its restoration work in the Bear River watershed.

The award states that Dahle "has been instrumental in completing many fish habitat restoration projects in conjunction with the Bureau of Land Management in Utah…Trout Unlimited's work on multiple projects has helped foster "robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish…so they can once again thrive within their native range, so that our children can enjoy healthy fisheries in their home waters."

Trout Unlimited and the Bureau of Land Management in Utah have worked together on this and other projects throughout the state.

"I am really honored by this award," said Dahle. "The Otter Creek project is a great illustration of the kind of amazing stream restoration work that can be achieved by collaborative partnerships."

Trout Unlimited has facilitated watershed-scale restoration efforts to re-establish and protect native Bonneville cutthroat trout and other native fish species in the area.

This is the first time this award has been given to a Trout Unlimited staff member.
